Jackie grew up in the small West Georgia town of Carrollton, but made Atlanta her home after graduating from Emory University. She married, traveled throughout Europe, and started her family before beginning her career in residential building.
Jackie started out in 1977 as a job cost accountant with a well-known local builder, and quickly rose in rank to controller and an integral part of the management team. In 1986 she ventured forth and started her own small building company. Being a small company, she was her own accountant, estimator, purchasing agent and even superintendent for awhile. “This was one of the happiest times of my life; I absolutely loved every minute of every day.” However, after several years of limited success, she decided that being an entrepreneur was better left to the guys with the deep pockets. “I learned that I was more comfortable managing and reporting than being a risk taker.”
In 1991, Jackie joined Jolly Homes as controller, thus beginning a long and successful relationship with Warren and Pete Jolly. Over the years Jackie’s many strengths have been called upon. At times she managed a large accounting department; at other times she was a one-man show, handling all phases of accounting including accounts payable, payroll and even estimating as well as producing financial statements. At the height of the company’s prosperity Jackie became CFO and managed a staff of three controllers, an accounts payable manager and several A/P data entry assistants.
The recent housing recession resulted in yet another change in focus for Jackie. Most of her time was spent on financial planning and reporting, managing cash flow, and helping to do whatever necessary for the survival of The Providence Group. Fortunately in 2011 the economy began to improve and The Providence Group became partners with JBGL Builder Finance, LLC. Currently, business has grown significantly and Jackie’s responsibilities have gladly changed yet again. But no matter what the future holds, Jackie is committed to The Providence Group and its continued success.
