“Your home should tell the story of who you are, and be a collection of what you love.” – Nate Berkus

The Providence Group Explains Design StylesWhat’s your style? Here at The Providence Group, our Designers enjoy getting to know the homebuyers and their individual design styles to better understand what they are looking for in a home.  A good way for them to know that is by completing the “Get to Know You” survey prior to the design appointment. This helps the designer determine the buyer’s unique style.

In a world where trends change so quickly, it is important to have a general understanding of the overall look you are most comfortable with. Here are a few classic styles that are well known and can help you narrow down the look you are trying to achieve for your new home.

Traditional style:

The Traditional style, inspired by Neoclassical, French country and British colonial movements in the 18th and 19th centuries, is usually combined with warm peach tones, beiges and wood accents. Furniture, trim and accents tend to be more elaborate and ornamented, displaying a sense of depth and well-thought-out design composition.

The Providence Group Design Studio offers several options for trim, which you can be added to several areas of the home to make it feel customized and elegant. Cabinet door styles and decorative countertop edges can also play an effective role in giving a home tasteful details.

Transitional Style:

Transitional style is a combination of traditional design with hints of modern elements. It is taking some of the ornamentation of a traditional design and adding simplistic elements, clean lines and playing with cooler, more neutral colors. There are several ways our designers can help you achieve this look in your new home.

Shaker style doors with some of our more ornamented door hardware can be a simple way to add some detail in a kitchen. A tray ceiling with crown molding in the owner’s suite can add some decorative but simple interest to the room. Adding a coffered ceiling in the family room but keeping simpler furnishings can also help add interest to a large room.

Modern Style:

Clean lines, simplistic elements, form and function. Uncluttered, neutral and no heavy, ornate decorations. A strong interest in the incorporation of natural materials, especially wood, is seen in modern designs. Pops of color can be added with accessories and furniture pieces.

The Providence Group Design Studio offers a great selection of natural engineered hardwood colors in order to give your home a more organic and airy feel. The addition of cable rail balusters can really add an excellent modern touch to your home.

Craftsman Style:

The craftsman style home design is focused on handcrafted products. Also known as the Arts and Crafts movement, this style’s main focus was simplicity, functionality with a hint of charm. Natural materials, built-ins and wainscoting panels are popular elements of this style.

Add some craftsmanship to your home by adding some of TPG’s signature fireplace built-ins or some of the many trim and wainscoting options we have to offer.

With so many options, The Providence Group offers something for every style to create the perfect home.
